I write this as information to you, our clients both existing or potential.  I have seen news stories about these chimney scam artists and have spoken to people who have been victims of them as well.  Today we have been made aware of multiple incidents in two local towns.  The victims have been elderly and have been taken for about $4000 for work that was done with the wrong material and done incorrectly.  Please do your homework!!!  Ask for credentials i.e. certification through the CSIA (Chimney Safety institute of America).  All certified chimney sweeps are to carry their certification card with them at all times, ask to see it!!  Also ask to see proof of insurance, both workmans comp and liability.  If the deal is too good to be true it probably is!  These companies are coming in from out of state, mostly New York, they either cold call on the phone or are bold enough to go door to door.  They are forging the logos of the National Chimney Sweep Guild onto their paperwork & using false names so they cannot be found.  As always if we at DM Storrs Chimney can answer any questions please contact us.
