The chimney has been torn down to the roofline.  What you see here are 2 aluminum liners used to vent gas appliances & an unused clay tile lined flue.  To see the chimney before the tear down click http://www.dmstorrschimney.com/our-soot-stories/charlestown-rebuild-day-1-con-t-again-

Charlestown rebuild day 1 (con't again)

Posted by Alexandra Storrs on Thursday, July 29, 2010, In : Charlestown Rebuild

Just before the tear down is to begin.  They have started bringing the brick up to the roof.  We did not use staging on this job because it was located @ a busy intersection in Charlestown.  In order to keep the cost down for the homeowner
Dana & Bruce hand carried the brick to roof.  Love the view, notice the Tobin Bridge in the background.  For closeups of this chimney click http://www.dmstorrschimney.com/our-soot-stories/charlestown-rebuild-day-1-con-t-

Charlestown Rebuild day 1

When the roofer pulled back the rubber roofing, this is what he found!!  Look closely at the base of the chimney, absolutely no mortar joints to speak of.  The brick are already starting to collapse down, it was swaying as they removed the brick from the top of the chimney.  One good push & the chimney would have fallen 45' to the ground.  People don't worry about what they can't see.  To see most recently completed rebuild click here http://www.dmstorrschimney.com/our-soot-stories/chimney-co...
